MTN Ghana has reported that approximately 5,700 of its customers might have been impacted by a recent cybersecurity incident

The company confirmed this occurrence in a press release dated April 28, 2025, indicating that while its services are fully operational, a forensic investigation is currently in progress to assess the full scope of the breach.

Initial findings suggest that the data of the affected customers may have been compromised. MTN has stated that it will reach out to these customers directly as part of its response strategy.

With a subscriber base of 29.2 million in Ghana, MTN reassured the public that the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of its systems are paramount to its operations. The company is collaborating closely with top cybersecurity professionals and has allocated substantial resources to manage and mitigate the situation.

Customers are advised to stay alert by updating their mobile and banking applications, utilizing strong passwords, enabling multifactor authentication, and refraining from sharing sensitive information such as passwords, PINs, and OTPs via phone calls, text messages, or emails.

Additionally, MTN suggested that customers worried about potential fraud should consider placing alerts on their credit reports with major credit bureaus as a precaution.

The company reiterated that protecting customer information is a primary concern and committed to providing ongoing updates as the investigation unfolds. MTN also encouraged affected and concerned customers to reach out to its support team via the toll-free number 100 for more information.
