Two co-wives living in the Dakwa community of the Bwari Area Council in Abuja, Nigeria, have reportedly been hospitalized after consuming a herbal concoction intended to enhance their husband's sexual desire, following his recent marriage to a third wife. The herbal remedy, commonly referred to as 'kayan mata' in the Hausa language, is believed to increase sexual attraction in male partners. As reported by Daily Trust, the identities of the women have been withheld, and they allegedly ingested the herbs three days after their husband married a third wife from his hometown of Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State. Musa Muhammad, the husband at the center of this incident, confirmed to the publication that his two wives were taken to a clinic in the nearby town of Madalla in Niger State, where they were diagnosed with organ damage purportedly caused by the herbs they ingested. He stated that both women underwent surgery at the hospital and were discharged on Monday. Muhammad further explained that it was discovered that a herbalist typically provided them with the liquid herbal preparation, which they mixed with milk before consumption; however, this time, she supplied them with a different powdered version. He recounted, 'I was informed from my main residence that my two wives were unwell, as I had spent the night at the home of my new bride.' Upon arriving, he found them in distress, writhing on the ground and complaining of abdominal pain. Initially, he called a local nurse who administered intravenous fluids, but when there was no improvement, he transported them to a clinic in Madalla for testing and surgery. Muhammad also mentioned that efforts were underway to locate the female herbalist for investigation to prevent others from becoming her next victims.
