Ghanaian comic actor Koo Ofori, whose real name is Samuel Seth Kwabena Kyere Karikari, has been detained by the Accra Central Police Command on charges of defrauding a Ghanaian resident in the United States of $50,000. According to police reports, Koo-Fori allegedly received this amount from the victim, a medical doctor based in California, under the pretense of purchasing land, which he overpriced by more than five times its actual value. After failing to retrieve her money, the victim reported the matter to the authorities. Investigations revealed that Koo-Fori had not repaid the funds and disregarded a summons to appear at the Dansoman District Court on April 17, 2025, resulting in a bench warrant for his arrest. He has since been taken into custody. His court date, originally scheduled for May 9, 2025, was delayed due to the court's unavailability, and the case is now set for May 12, 2025. He will remain in custody until the next hearing. The police have urged the public to be cautious in financial transactions, especially those involving significant amounts and informal agreements.
